John is a composer whose work explores how sound, form, and emotion interact, shaping spaces for reflection and expression. His music seeks to balance structure and intuition, clarity and spontaneity, creating environments that listeners can inhabit, reflect upon, and interpret. He is especially interested in how concert composition can engage meaningfully with today’s diverse musical culture, writing music that is carefully crafted yet direct in expression, rewarding close listening while also communicating immediate feeling.

He recently completed his Master of Music in Concert Composition at New York University, where he studied with Justin Dello Joio and Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, following his bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he also completed a certificate in conducting.

His music has been performed by ensembles including Contemporaneous and Rhythm Method, as well as university ensembles at New York University, such as the NYU Wind Symphony. These experiences have continued to shape his interest in writing music that is grounded in collaboration with performers and attentive to the realities of performance. 

Looking ahead, he continues to explore how abstract sound can carry meaning, and how structure and expression can remain clearly perceptible in performance.
