Medium Bio

John is a composer whose work explores the relationship between sound, form, and emotional immediacy. His music balances structure and intuition, clarity and spontaneity, creating environments that are both carefully constructed and directly communicative. Rooted in concert traditions, his work is driven by an interest in how contemporary audiences engage with formal musical processes and expressive clarity.

He recently completed his Master of Music in Concert Composition at New York University, where he studied with Justin Dello Joio and Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, following a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. His music has been performed by ensembles including Contemporaneous and Rhythm Method, and he has been selected for performance opportunities at New York University, including works written for university ensembles such as the NYU Wind Symphony. He continues to develop work that seeks a balance between structural rigor and immediacy of expression.
